Why I Ride
is due in part to Mrs. Riley, who I most frequently saw down at the neighborhood pool, swimming laps, all summer long. 3pm. Lifeguard whistle. Kids out. Adult swim only. In went Mrs. Riley. While I don’t recall seeing Mrs. Riley on a bike, what she modeled for me was a way to live a lifetime of fitness. Cycling, along with swimming, fulfills that model.
Why I ride…
is due in part to Mark’s father, who knowing I had purchased my Pinarello Treviso frameset with my summer earnings in 1985 at a small bike shop in Bagnols-sur-Ceze (my carry-on luggage for the return flight), bought for me a wrecked bike in MN for $50 because it was outfitted with Campy Nouveau and Super Record components.
Why I ride…
is due in part to Susan Kloha, who invited me to join in Team Revolution’s Wednesday No Stop / No Drop rides. After deciding that St. Louis and cycling didn’t mix with a firm commitment to NEVER own a Dodge Magnum (yeah, yield signs are still in effect on Saturday mornings with little traffic), I regained my comfort in cycling with the increased visibility of the Team Rev peloton.
Why I ride…
is due in part to Team Revolution. I long for community. The camaraderie, support, acceptance and just plain fun that I’ve experienced in and out of the saddle with Team Rev has been well appreciated.
Rev on.
