Fit for Purpose: Shouldn’t Everything Wick?
In the last couple of years I’ve become increasingly reluctant to spend money on clothes that aren’t cycling related and/or wool. Normally this is not a problem given my casual lifestyle and my even more casual work environment. During 2008, however, my chamois and wool wardrobe approach was challenged due to various family and friends feeling the need to get married.
When the first wedding invitation showed up in the mail I took a long, hard look in my closet. At the bottom of all my baselayers, cycling jerseys and spandex riding shorts I found an appropriate pair of dress pants (wool, of course) and shoes. Now all I needed was a top.
“Just how well does this top wick?” I asked the salesgirl at the department store. She looked at me like I had two heads. When I inquired about whether the shirt was windproof she simply walked away. After rifling through the stacks of sweaters I came across a nice brown and black patterned top. When I looked at the tag and it said “Wool and silk blend” I bought it without even trying it on. I’ve worn that sweater to a quite a few weddings this year and I’ve done the worm in it countless times. And, because it’s wool and it doesn’t hold odors, I haven’t had to wash it once.

There are simply too many things to comment on here! Your wardrobe. The appropriateness of the worm (I thought that died a quiet death in the 80′s!). A windproof shirt to be worn at weddings.
Of course, I sit here typing while wearing my own wool shirt–that I embarrassingly enough use for a wide range of occasions. So, yes, I know. Pot. Kettle. Black. Yep. But, at least it’s not windproof!
Did I hear that Smart Wool was coming out with a line of bridesmaids’ dresses?
[...] In its early stages, the victim may be heard calling out cracks in the sidewalks to fellow pedestrians. Other early symptoms include a compulsion to “stay on the wheel” of motorists ahead of them on the freeway. Inappropriate dressing may also be seen. For example, the afflicted may be seen in Icebreaker and windproof layers at a wedding….My God! I think a close friend of mine may be showing some early signs! [...]
